My Facebook writer group page will be the “landing strip” on which I will focus on several female horror writers per week during the month of February. This is an educational opportunity for readers and doubters.

Melbourne Horror Film Society Presents: Goodnight Mommy

Event: Women In Horror Month: GOODNIGHT MOMMY

Date: February 21, 2017

Location: LongPlay

Time: 7:30pm

Price: $8

Organizer(s): Melbourne Horror Film Society

Contact: melissa.begg@gmail.com

Website: https://www.facebook.com/events/239963319740759??ti=ia

Description: For the first of our special Women In Horror Month events for 2017, we’ll be screening GOODNIGHT MOMMY. This beautifully shot, disturbing and quite gruesome horror is a German language / Austrian production released in 2014 and the debut feature film from writer/director team Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala.

After returning home covered in bandages from presumed plastic surgery procedures, mother doesn’t seem like herself to her two young twin boys. They become increasingly convinced the one person they trust the most is not actually their mother and react accordingly.. In addition to making the audience feel afraid for the children, Goodnight Mommy also effectively highlights fears felt by many women – feeling alien and alone as her own sons reject her and deem her a threat to their safety.

The night will kick off at 7.30pm with an introduction from Mel discussing the film, as well as an overview of Women In Horror and the significance of the Women In Horror movement to celebrate and showcase the achievements of women in horror!

We look forward to seeing all the women and the men on this night..
Bob, Matt, David, Mel & Adam

Newcomers, LongPlay has a dedicated cinema with a great size screen and the front bar offers tasty food and beverages that will be available on the night.
Remember: memberships are required to attend our screenings and will be available to purchase on the night.
Mini memberships give you access to 3 screenings for just $8.
Full memberships cover you for 12 screenings and will set you back $25.

Description: Once coworkers, always friendly competitors for the spotlight, Tracy Mathews and Minki Kim share their love of horror movies — and debating each other — as they retell every gory detail of one horror film each week. These creatives by day, novice film critics by night, walk through one movie from start to finish, laughing at themselves along the way.

Join the hosts for their first ever mini-sode, airing on iTunes on the evening of Feb 19, when they do something a little different just for this special month. They’ll bring some of their favorite females to discuss who’ve impacted the genre, including screenwriters, producers, and memorable actresses.

It’s back to the usual format on Feb 26, when they walk through a full movie, but in this episode they’ll be discussing Dearest Sister, a Shudder exclusive, directed by Mattie Do—the first female director of a Lao feature film.
