Description: Horror films are far more than jump scares and on-screen torture; many horror films engage in profound and compelling social commentary.  Horror films are particularly active in exploring social justice issues.  Amanda Hobson–horror scholar, Indiana State University Assistant Dean of Students and Director of the Women's Resource Center–will present how horror films participate in cultural and political critique and meaning-making.

Hobson will specifically address the impact of gender and racial diversity in front of and behind the camera in contemporary horror films. This event is a part of the 9th annual Women in Horror Month Celebration #WiHM9, an international, grassroots initiative educating and showcasing the underrepresented work of women in the horror industry, and it is the second year for Indiana State University participation in WiHM.
